2013 Scholarship Program

For the 15th year Jackson Electric Cooperative will award a number of $1,000 scholarships for area students to attend college. These scholarships will only be awarded to sons or daughters of Jackson Electric Cooperative members with active electric accounts, regardless of which high school or college attended.  The only exception is when the applicant is in legal guardianship.  As in the past, this year’s scholarships will be awarded to either graduating seniors or students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an institution of higher learning.

High school applicants:

  1. Complete the two-page application.
  2. Be sure to include the required membership information.
  3. Include an essay on what you have done to prepare yourself to complete a college degree.
  4. Submit with the application a seven-semester high school transcript, plus any college work that is applicable.

Currently enrolled college students:

  1. Complete the two-page application.
  2. Be sure to include the required membership information.
  3. Include an essay on your goals for the future and current college accomplishments.
  4. Submit with the application a transcript from the college you currently attend.

Interested students or parents should contact Missie Landry in the Edna office (361-771-4425)
for additional information if needed.  Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on March 29, 2013 to either the Edna or Bay City office.  Applications received after that date will not be considered.
Selection will be made by April 15, 2013.

Actual funding of each scholarship will occur after we receive copies of the student’s payment and
registration for the fall semester.  Students must maintain a 12-hour course load to be eligible for payment.  Scholarship funds must be claimed within two years of the award date.

Funding for these scholarships comes from funds that would normally be escheated to the state.  A portion of each year’s escheated funds from unclaimed capital credit accounts are designated by the State Comptroller’s Office to be used for these purposes.  This is another benefit delivered from your cooperative and Jackson Electric Cooperative appreciates the opportunity to bring this service to you.
